5 Tips For Buying The Right Hybrid Mattress?
1- Materials That Are High Quality and maybe Natural.
When it comes to hybrid mattresses, a lot of companies make a lot of claims. A hybrid mattress needs to have a sturdy wrapped coil system that is more than 1000 count and a top layer of either latex or memory foam.
Ideally, you want to go with Dunlop latex and a natural cover.
Dunlop is more natural than Talalay and performs better than memory foam while organic cotton is more natural and more durable than other covers. Also, make sure the mattress uses organic wool as a fire barrier. The last thing you need is chemicals with an expensive bed like a hybrid.
2- Stay away from Amazon!
We personally tested dozens of mattresses and we can confidently say that the mattresses available on Amazon are by far the worst. You basically get what you pay for. Unfortunately, because the businesses selling these are mostly in China, they do not abide by the FTC rules. They say things like 100% natural while the quality is obviously polyester. They even play with the law tags to show authenticity.
Also, do not trust the reviews, as even Amazon itself said that those Chinese businesses are hacking their way into thousands of reviews and they can’t do anything about it. To put it simply, stay away from all Amazon bedding and especially mattresses
3- The Right Firmness Rating
Because hybrid mattresses are generally springy, it’s better to go with something that has a medium feel.
Look for a bed with a 3-layer design of soft, medium, then hard. The first layer must be something like a quilted cover plus a latex cushion or memory foam cushion. The second layer can be denser latex, high-density memory foam, or even better, micro coils for more individual comfort.
The third layer has to be a wrapped coil system with edge support and over 1000 count or the bed is not considered a hybrid.
4- Cooling & Breathability That Offers Uninterrupted Sleep
Latex is more breathable than memory foam but if you don’t have sleeping warm issues then you can go with memory foam as well. The more coils there are in a hybrid bed the better air will circulate.
Look for organic or natural cotton covers that offer better breathability and cooling than all other covers. Stay away from so-called “smart covers” as they are mostly polyester made hiding under fancy names.
If the base layer is pocketed coils, it would allow for even more breathability. Just look for a bed with a high coil count.
5- Value & Service
Hybrid mattresses are expensive but that doesn’t mean they have bad value. Look for something with a nice price tag under $2500 for a queen size.
A 50 to 100-day sleep trial is a must for you to be sure the mattress works. Make sure returns are free as well as shipping.
A 10-year warranty is more than enough but something like a Lifetime warranty shows more confidence in the make of the mattress.
